I came across Abegayle’s work on facebook and LOVED one of her dresses so thought I would share with you this little gem and hope you love it too!

– Interview

Tell us a bit about what you do and your brand:

Currently I am studying a BA Hons in Fashion Design at the University of Wales Newport.  My designs so far have all been very unique, with them all being subconsciously inspired by that feminine shape and form.

What type of clothing?

The outfits I have made so far have been quite varied.  With the uni briefs I have received I have had a chance to explore many different styles and trends from structured and edgy to soft and feminine.  However, I feel my clothing always comes back to that feminine hourglass figure, whether its soft and close to the body or structured and the shape exaggerated.

Who is your target audience?

Women aged 18-25 who love fashion!

Do you have your clothes in any stores yet?

Yes!  Although I’m still currently in university, one of our projects was to rework an outfit for Oxfam Boutique in Cardiff. We were given 50 bags of unwanted old, waste clothes, which people classed as “rubbish”.  I then made an on trend outfit from these waste, unwanted items and this outfit is being sold in the Oxfam Boutique in Cardiff.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working in fashion! Whether it’s designing, styling, buying, I want to experience everything!

Anything big planned for your collection of clothes? Anything else being added?

Theres always more being added! With new briefs and inspiration, comes new ideas!

How do you rate yourself as a fashion designer?

I’m still evolving as a designer, as I’m still studying my skills and ideas are broadening. Being my own biggest critic helps as I’m always trying to push myself further.

In your eyes what makes a good fashion designer?

Someone who is extremely dedicated and passionate about fashion!! Always keeping ahead of the trends, colours, styles, details and any inspiration thats out there.

Do you think the Fashion industry is difficult to break into?

Definitely!  However, as long as you work hard and keep determined then everything is possible!

What do you think it takes to become successful in the design industry?

Passion, determination, talent and lots of enthusiasm!!!

What to you is the most important aspect of creating a garment, the planning, design or implementation and why?

Obviously all these aspects are important, but I personally get most of my development from the implementation of a garment, as I feel when I create a garment I like to be able to experiment to find out what works and doesn’t work and this pushes my ideas further.

What drives you/give you the ‘go’ to keep at it and do everything?

To see my ideas and designs transpire to the final garments.  With people wearing my outfits and to have the pleasure of seeing those garments on a catwalk and in a photo shoot.

Does fame attract you?

No, just the enjoyment of working in an industry I’m passionate about!

Where does your inspiration come from for your designs?

Everywhere! From magazines, nature, trends, colour, inspiration can be found absolutely everywhere!

Where can we buy your clothes?

By contacting me directly.

Three words to describe yourself?

Enthusiastic, passionate and driven.

Hobbies and other interests?

Fashion, shopping, skiing and socialising!

Favourite Fashion Designer?

Currently Balmain.  I love the structure and shape of their garments.

Tools of the trade?

A good sewing machine, and a good scissors!

Any Tips or advice to share with aspiring designers?

As I’m still studying for my degree myself, I aim to work hard and experience as much as possible!
