– Interview

Welcome to Design Splat Geraint!

How did you get into Photography?

Bought a film SLR as a teenager and played around with it a bit for a couple of years, then got bored.  I recently became interested in it once again and bought a Digital SLR which I had no idea how to use so I signed up for a couple of courses through ffotogallery at Chapter Arts Centre.

What aspect of Photography?

I’m interested in nature photography, wildlife, flowers, sunsets, but also lines and shapes occuring in buildings and everyday patterns.  Not so much people, although that is something I would like to explore in the future, as well as skateboarding photography and more urban scenery.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

No idea, not sat at this desk in this box with a bit of luck.

Freelance photographer/Own business or working for a company?

What drives you/gives you the ‘go’ to keep at it and do everything?

Just something I enjoy doing at the moment, interested in looking at photography, taking photos and trying new things.  When the passion and fun of it disappears, I’ll stop…

What obstacles – if any, have you encountered along the way?

Digital storage, and taking too many photos in the first place.

Can you recall the first photo you took that made you go WOW!?

None of them have yet.

If you could photograph/have a shoot with anyone who would it be?

A Skater in some industrial area or empty American Pool.

Does fame attract you?

No it disgusts me.

How do you feel about photo manipulation?

I was quite against it, when I didn’t know how to, but now I am learning I am enjoying it and can see it’s purpose.

How do you rate yourself as a photographer?

Very much a beginner having fun, keen to learn and interested in trying different things.

What makes a good photographer?

Creativity, patience, luck.

Do you think the Photography Industry is difficult to break into? Are you worried about the amount of competition with more and more people becoming photographers?

Yes I am sure it is, especially in certain fields, but I think they both drive each other, especially the massive market of online images.

Three words to describe yourself?

Lost.  Little.  Boy.

Hobbies and other interests?

Travel, surf, music, trying to read the books that surround me, sunshine, drinking, messing about, the big outdoors.

Favourite photographer?

Henry Yau (

Any Tips and tricks you want to share with aspiring Photographers?

Have fun.

Tools of the trade?

Canon EOS 500D, Canon 50mm 1.4 Lens

Best and worst photo you’ve taken?

Always the last one I take.
