– Interview

Hello and Welcome to Design Splat Heavy Lies the Crown!

To get the readers started introduce yourselves and tell us who you are:

We’re Heavy Lies the Crown and we’re from the North East of England.

Scott Rudd – Vocals
Graham Sanderson – Guitars/Vocals
Dan Williams – Guitars/Vocals
Ed Terry – Drums
Ian Taylor – Bass

Where did the name Heavy Lies the Crown come from?

The name comes from the film The Departed, we thought it sounded cool and it had a good meaning behind it too which helps i guess.

At what age did you form the band Heavy Lies the Crown?

Well we were all at different ages, ranging from 15-23

How did you get into song writing and singing?

We have all had an interest in music from a very early age and i guess songwriting has just developed through being in different bands over the years and broadening our musical horizons to take in more influence.

Are you signed or unsigned at the moment?

We’re unsigned but looking 😉

How would you describe your music to people?

We like to think we have our own “sound” but if we had to some it up we would probably go for something like a hardcore band who aren’t afraid to get heavy!

What are your songs about?

Our songs are about different things, deceit, revenge, hate, so yeah, we’re a pretty happy bunch!

What image do you think your music conveys?

We’d like to think it conveys an image of hope and a big middle finger to things in life that piss you off!

What or who is the influence for your music?

Life… everything that goes on in our day to day life is just fuel for what we produce.

Who is your target audience?

We beleive our music can be liked by anybody, regardless of age, sex, religion… We don’t target a specific sector.

Which part of creating music is the most important to you? The writing of the lyrics, the beat or performing?

We take pride in our performance so we’d probably go with that, although each aspect is just as important as the other.

How do you know when a song is good?

You can just feel if a song is going to be good or not when you’re rehearsing it, if it doesn’t get us interested when we’re playing it how will it capture the imagination of a listener?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Still writing, recording, touring… playing shows for diesel money and scrimping by like we always have 🙂

How do you rate yourselves as a singers/song writers?

Ermm it’s tough to say, although we have just released our debut EP and we seem to be getting a lot of positive feedback for that so we must be doing something right i guess!

In your eyes what makes a good singer/song writer?

Catchy songs, singing things from the heart, passion.

Do you think the Music industry is difficult to break into?

Without a doubt one of the hardest industries in the world to get into!

What do you think it takes to become successful in the Music industry?

Persistence and Hard Work

What drives you/give you the ‘go’ to keep at it and do everything?

We do this because we enjoy it, we’ve had some of the best times in the band and we plan on having a lot more in the future!

What level of fame do you aspire to reach?

It would be nice ot have a decent size fan base and be able to tour outside the UK without us losing a load of money haha but we don’t aspire to be mega rockstars or anything like that.

Where can we buy/download your music?

We have our debut EP available for free download here and we have the tracks on our Myspace and they’re available on Facebook too!
